WiFi Signal Strength Only Strong When It Freezes Outside

Post by kimokalihi »

Anybody notice their wifi signal is only strong when the temps drop down into the 30s or lower? I've observed this over the past few weeks. If it's 50 degrees outside my signal is 1 or 2 bars. Right now it's probably 25 degrees and it's 4 out of 5 bars. But often it's 5 bars when it's freezing outside.

I searched google and couldn't come up with anything. Another thing I noted is there seems to be absolutely no difference in performance.

Where is your wifi source located in relation to your computer?

i don't know for sure this applies, but i was told by a company that sells and install wifi repeaters for large and extra large buildings that the water in your body can block a weak wifi signal.

i wonder if freezing the water in the air would have any affect.?

is your wifi router in your home?

It's the same way with most radio signals, for some reason there's less interference. When I was in the military, we could bounce our signals off the troposphere (the radios were designed to be line of sight), extending the range from 35 miles to 90+ when it was cold.

Interesting. The router is in the house and I'm out in the rec room and the distance is about 30 ft. Going through one wall. I got an extension cable for my wireless antenna and mounted it on the roof of this building so it's a direct line of sight and only has to go through one wall instead of two walls and the roof.
