02-03 WRX springs on 92-94 Legacy

Post by BoostedSubie »

Hey guys, I want to upgrade my suspension on my 93 legacy wagon awd. I have read just about every suspension thread on here to get the answer i need. I plan on buying kyb gr-2s and lowering springs. I have looked into the h&r springs but i want to know how well the 02-03 wrx springs-non tapered would work on my car-non tapered. The suspension sticky says it works if i use the wrx front top hats but someone else said they will slam the front to the ground. I was looking at the tein h techs for the wrx which lower it 1.4in front/.6in rear. Will it work, has anyone done something similar?

I know I've been chatting with you previously, but bump for someone else that has done this and comment.

yeah, i've searched literally for weeks and haven't got a direct answer from anyone. One guy told me it would slam the front end and then i've been told it will work fine. I've pmed a couple of guys that have it listed as a mod on their profile but i haven't got any responses yet. At this point i was just going to buy all four corners from a 02 wrx at the local junk yard to see how well they would work but they only had 1 corner left. That way if they don't work i can just take them back. I'll figure out someway, i'm going to continue to search as well. Something is bound to show up.

I had 02-03 WRX struts and springs on my car in the beginning before it was running and it didn't slam the front. The rear was lower than the front and it looked stupid.

I don't know if there would be a difference when just using the springs with legacy struts. But I'm pretty sure I still have a full set of STI springs for sale if you want those. $40 plus shipping.

That helps a lot man, thanks man. Thats exactly what i don't want, the rear lower than the front. Are they the tapered springs? How did the sti springs lower your car?

Couldn't tell ya. I never put them on my car. I replaced the WRX struts and springs with STI struts and springs which looked like they didn't really lower the car at all. That may have lowered it an inch max. And it was still higher in the front. I hated the look of it even though it was only a small difference front to rear. So I bought some Tein Type HT coilovers and sold the struts cheap to my friend stephen(beatersubi). Never drove on either setup but the coilovers are nice lol.

The STI springs are tapered just like the 90-91 springs.

I might want those from you, i'm going to do a little digging on how the sti springs ride on my struts. Cuz it might just be the strut height that offset the front and back.

From this thread: Suspension Information Compendium -what fits, tuning info - http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=2153
The difference between 90-91 and 92-94 struts is the height where the spring seat is welded to the strut. http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewto ... yb+fitment
swapping which springs and struts from what years you use you could raise or lower your car and maintain factory suspension stiffness.

So it looks like you might be better off with 90-91 struts as they have a lower front perch and higher rear perch than 92-94 but it's not clear if that goes for stock as well or just the KYB struts.

i bought a set of flea bay coil overs for my 92. They were listed for WRX. fit right on, lowered the car about an inch. We set them to rake the car front to rear. Rides sriffer, but handles better

The WRX guys use rear spring spacers on the rear to raise the car's rear so it's not as low as the front, seems to be how they're made.

My local "speed shop" sells these, stick them in above the top hats..
