No they are different. Looking in the factory service manual I can see the turbo tranny has more clutch packs in there.

Josh is that in the transmission itself or the torque converter? The car it self is having slipping issues and trying to go on the cheap side of things. Hoping it might be a torque converter, but would a torque converter be the same??

The clutch plates and items that would likely cause the transmission to slip is internal to the transmission. Can you provide some additional details as to when it slips and such.

Not really the car itself is not in my possession. My friend is buying it. All I know is that the car drives but slowly, it slips when going up hills it has no shavings in the pan. Fluid looks good and is topped off. Second trans in the car milage unknown. It takes a moment for it to engage in auto but in 1/2/3 it drives fine.

Maybe I'm not following you.....but how does it "drives but slowly, it slips when going up hills..", but then "in 1/2/3 it drives fine"? To me it would seem that the car either drives/works ok, or it doesn't.
If you have issues only in the "D" position, it's still going to require tearing the trans down to troubleshoot. Unless your friend is getting it for a steal or has a trans lined up for cheap....I'd pass on it.
