2005 GT Turbo Tranny Interchange

Post by turbodrabbit' »

Hey all,

I found a 2005 Legacy Turbo Sedan that has a bad manual trans. I was wondering if another 5mt would work with the Legacy, say a wrx/forester/outback trans? I don't even know the gearing in the diff of the 2005 Legacy Gt trans?

If anyone knows of a reasonably priced manual trans, I would be interested.

As long as you match the final drive ratio you should be able to swap from another model. I don't know the final drive ratio, but you may want to check out or ask over on www.legacygt.com/forums

The LGT's of that generation or newer get their speed reading from the ABS instead of a speedo cable going to the tranny itself, so I'd imagine it wouldn't be a problem going that direction, but getting an LGT tranny to work in another car would take some work. Not really helpful to you, but something for those considering an LGT tranny swap.

Hi,

Check out LegacyGT.com for sure....

Check out this link on NASIOC, it's sold, but there's a lot of good info.

The LGT trans from '05-06(?) still used the gear driven speedo...more info HERE.

So, yes, you should be able to use the Forester/OB trans, although they are for sure a 4.44 FD ratio, so you'd need the rear diff, too.

An older trans will work, but you'll have to deal w/the different axles, and such.
