Can anyone help me locate a Dual Range Automatic Transmission for my 97 LSi?? I've been searching for days, and I know that those transmissions don't come stock with the US Subaru Models. But I still can't find any. Thanks for any help in advance!

You would have to find one from an older 80's Subaru and then use the adapter plate.
You could maybe find one overseas, but shipping would probably make that not as attractive.

I don't know how well that would hold up to the greater power and weight of the 97 LSI.

Agreed....I probably wouldn't put an EA series trans in an EJ....but it is an option.

I'd try an importer. Foresters and maybe Legacys came with dual range in Australia, possibly other markets.

Hi,
Please post a link to where you found an Auto Dual Range reference. I've only read about the Manuals having that option.
Here's a
Link w/some useful info...again, only Manual dual-range listed...although the newer CVTs may have it down-under.
Also, found this in an Aussie Subaru AWD document
HERE:
Dual Range Shifting - Shifting All-Wheel Drive
Some Subaru manual models come with a dual range function. This allows switching to a
lower gear range that provides more engine torque multiplication. This is useful when
climbing steep slopes, or negotiating difficult terrain, as it provides both additional pulling
power and engine braking. Automatic models do not require the dual range function
because they have a torque converter that automatically increases available torque for
negotiating tough terrain.
Edit. Also, you're FD ratio may require a different rear differential. I 'think' the LSi, which has the EJ25
is the same as the Outback (and GT?) which is 4.44...but haven't confirmed that yet. Otherwise it's 4.11 like the other Legacys. According opposedforces.com yours IS the 4.44 -
LINK.

I haven't found any information on a Auto Dual Range Transmission for the EJ Series, but I do know that one of the EA Series from the 80's had an A/T that had the Dual Range option.
I'll continue my research and post anything I find.

I'll check my rear diff gear ratio as soon as i'm off work, and i'll let you know. But as far as I know, they are the same.

Your LSi should be the 4.44...see my edit above.

I do see that. I'll double check it anyways when I change the fluid. I haven't changed it since I got the car, and I don't know how long its been since the fluids been changed.

The trans will hold up as long as you don't abuse it. I have a AWD D/R from a RX in my Brat with a EJ22 swap, and my buddy put a 5spd D/R from a loyale into his 99 Outback sport. He abuses his car cause he offroads in it alot since he lifted and put that trans in and it's been holding up great for him.
