Major Oil leak?

Post by legacy92turbo »

the underside of my engine is saturated with oil and is leaking onto the exhaust manifold causing it to stink real bad and smoke can be seen sometimes i can see its oil burn marks on the manifold and about half way back on the exhaust, the car runs fine and i check my oil every couple days and seems fine. is there some main seals that could be done or something around in behind the timing belt? what could it be?

If the oil is coming from the timing cover area, it's likely the cam and crank oil seals and the oil pump itself. The screws that hold the oil pump together like to loosen themselves over time, and the oil pump starts leaking badly. The valve cover gaskets are prone to leaking oil too, and those are much easier to replace. If the oil is indeed coming from the timing cover, you'll need to do the timing belt, and you might as well do the water pump, idlers and tensioner while in there.

Take your car to a self wash place along with some degreaser. Spray the underside of the engine with degreaser and power wash it off. Once you have everything clean, you should be able to tell where the oil is coming from and then fix the problem.
