How clean does the block need to be?

Doing head gaskets on a NA ej22, sent my heads off to the machine shop, so I know those are good. I need to know how clean the block needs to be before I reinstall the new gaskets and heads. Everything feels smooth, but there is alot of discoloration. I don't want to go through all this trouble just to not have a good seal. I have spent a couple hours gently scraping everything with a long razor blade being careful not to nick anything. Im just a little uneasy about the discoloration where the old gaskets used to be. Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

The discoloration is normal. What I'd suggest checking for is the straightness of the deck. Also check that there are no dings/scratches where the cylinders seal.

All that looks good, going ahead with reassembly on wednesday. Thanks!
