Hi guys. So I'm doing the 04 sti strut swap. Got the 91 top hats for the rear and sti springs all around. I'm just looking at the springs here and not sure which ones to put in. I'd think the sti springs (left) would be stiffer but the 91 sedan springs (right) are standing higher unsprung. Like I said in the title I don't want to lower it. Car is a 93 ss and is only used for auto and rallyx's and It's slowly being upgraded. Daily driver is now a beauty 87 mercury tracer......4 gears baby!
Thanks for any opinions eh
The STi springs will probably lower it a little bit, but it probably wouldn't be too bad. Unsprung length isn't really a good indicator of what the sprung height/length would be.
I recently put this setup under a '95 Legacy wagon and it lowered the car about an inch and a half. If that's too much for you could purchase some readily available strut spacers to install on top of the struts assemblies. Otherwise, you could run some '02-'03 WRX springs for a little less rate but ~1" more height. You'd need to swap to '92-'94 rear tophats with those, however.
For reference, this is the BK after the swap (it settled ~1/2"):
93 legacy wagon L, 22T swapped (TW imitator) now with five forward speeds. (Gone, but never forgotten)

I'm pretty sure mine (Atleast the fronts) lowered mine. I haven't gotten around to the rears yet cuz i haven't had time to get to pick&pull for some rear tophats.
