random smoke ?

Post by aldogg »

Hi All,
So I have a 93 legacy turbo wagon.(background)(new head gaskets water pump, oil pump, timing belt, plugs, wires ect.,ect.) So randomly it will smoke A LOT, it usually lasts for a while. Sometimes it does it when I start it, some times just driving down the road. I does it more right when I start it. I have no idea! it is driving my nuts. At first I thought it might be oil getting sucked up into the pcv system, then I was thinking coolant, but the coolant level never drops, and it never gets hot. there is not oil in the coolant, or vice versa. Fuel? I have no idea. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From your description, I'm assuming the smoke is coming out of the exhaust pipe. Would that be correct? Or is it coming just from underneath the car?

If it's coming from the exhaust pipe I would suggest you do a compression test on the motor, and depending on what you find you may need to do a leak down test to see if you have bad rings and/or valve seals
