Quick question about the 06 WRX TMIC and boost on the stock

Post by ridezx6r »

So my car for some reason is down to 6psi on a boost controller, not sure why the previous owner put it there, but it is.
He also gave me a 06 TMIC from a WRX. Now I understand this is installed with a custom/fabbed y-pipe and not much else, right?
Also after that's on I want to turn up the boost to about 11psi... The stock pump/injectors/ecu can take about 13psi before fuel cut right?

I don't need really any more out of the car as it'll be my DD (have an FRC Corvette for fun), and I don't wanna bother with turbo swaps, and finding tuning solutions etc... but I figured since the MBC and the TMIC came with the car... why not ya know?

You're going to have a hard time fitting any TMIC on the stock VF11, due to its non-standard clocking. Yes, it's possible, but not going to be easy...

6 psi sounds like wastegate pressure. you sure the hoses are all properly attached to/from the turbo and boost controller?

Yeah I think the MBC is basically just bypassing and letting the WG do its job. I'm gonna turn it up eventually.
I saw a TD04 from a WRX in the classifieds, would that be an easier turbo to work with? I know its not really any bigger, which is fine, I'd just like to get this thing intercooled and I'm sure with the miles on the turbo a newer one wouldn't hurt.

Yes, the TD04 flows more CFM than the VF11. the td05/td04/vf38 are the common upgrade turbos used on our cars with a TMIC.

^VF38 = VF39 (Stock STi turbo from 04-06)?

The STi VF43 ('07) and VF48 ('08-'10) are almost identical to the VF39, too. From HERE.

Not being picky...just wanted to clarify.

While I appreciate the clarification. I wasn't asking abotu the TD05 or vf38 or 39
I was asking about the TD04.... So this really doesn't help me at all.

i decided I'm going to purchase a td04 and the y pipe kit from ebay... I created a thread about this here http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47827 <--- I'd love some feedback there
