robs tune ?'s

Post by Mt.HOODrat »

i know i could probably just PM rob, but i kinda wanted to hear from people who have used the setup.

1) how much total did it cost for the whole setup?

2) is it pretty much plug and play? if not, was it a big hassle?

3) in your opinion, is it a suitable solution for a daily driver?

4) are you happy with the setup overall?

thanks guys, i appreciate it in advance

1. I'm selling an ECU for $100 in the parts shed, then around $300 for Rob to tune it I think.

2. It's mostly plug and play, especially if you get Rob's Ignition Converter too. If not, then you have to either convert to COP or run dual ignitors with a little rewiring.

3. I've heard it is, I'm not running it though.

4. I don't have one. :)

1. ~$600 (cop route)
2. I converted to cop so it was a little more involved, but Rob was a real gentleman and was there to answer emails and walk me trough it.
3. Very much so a daily driver.
4. Yup
5. :-D

I think it ran me $450 including purchasing the ecu from rob and then another $200 for ignitors and a patch harness. But you wont need those because now rob has a different piece of hardware to simplify the ignition conversion and its only like $75.

Runs awesome. youd never know it was chipped.

Hi,

3) in your opinion, is it a suitable solution for a daily driver?
- Very much so....better than stock from what most people say.
4) are you happy with the setup overall?
-Yes. The only issue I have is the 'known issue' w/the EJ20G ECU's cold start, per Rob.....whenever it's below 50 degrees and the car has sat overnight it rarely starts on the 1st try-sputters and dies. But it ALWAYS has started on the 2nd try, and whenever warm. It does take a couple extra cranks to start than the stock ECU, which was instantaneous, but my Forester did the same thing.

One thing ive noticed but dont know if its the ej20g or what but if i crank it and let off the key before it fully starts and it dies then the second ime i crank it the engine will crank a long time before starting unless i give it gas.

^Sorry to go off-topic, but you shouldn't have to give an EFI car gas, last I checked. Sounds like it's flooding on the 1st try and the 2nd cleans it out and then starts. Is your idle solid? Injectors leaking?
