Shop recommendation in Seattle area?

Post by roamer »

My '91 turbo needs the power steering rack replaced and the pump rebuilt. What shops around here do people like for repair work? Does PIA do repairs as well as tuning work? I am nowhere near Tacoma but don't mind the drive if the shop does good work. Thanks!

Near dealer prices at www.smart-service.com; they have two locations. I've been happy with the work/service they've done in the past.

Welcome to the BBS.

Just an FYI, most places won't rebuild the PS pump, they'll just replace it. As long as the guts are in good shape, it's actually pretty straight forward to disassemble, replace the seals, and reassemble. I ended up buying a separate replacement bearing, pressed the old one off, and put the new one on.

This thread will have all the info you need.

I've never had work done there before, but there's a shop in marysville called independent subaru. The lady at the front desk seemed to know what she was talking about, and they seem dedicated to subarus in general. i think labor was 75/hour which is better than most mechanics i've heard of lately. I think they have a shop in seattle too.

PIA can do that for you with a rebuilt rack and new pump.
