Would something better then the Diamond coil be needed like the msd? or not so much?

You should be fine with the diamond coil pack. I don't personally think a larger coil would really be a big difference. I do run an MSD Dis-2 ignition and I do think that helps.

i would get a new coil pack, i have a old diamond, and a new msd. i am going to be running the new msd when i get everything together to make it work, mate the male msd coil end to the magnacore lines male ends.

several of my cars/trucks in the past, not scoobs though, had to have the coils replaced over 100k, from idle to about 2000rpm I had power loss/cut out//misses , my coil had 180k on it so it was a no brainer for me.

MSD coil $80 plus new wires if you dont want to modify, if you have old wires you might as well,
diamond pack new i think is over $200, not 100% on it.

I have an MSD with wires I'd rather not sell with my car. I would need your spark plug wires as I had to destroy mine to make what you see below. PM if you're interested.
