So i just attempted to remove my tranny...

Post by speezly »

Ive got it halfway separated from the engine but it is not wanting to come off of the engine studs. I have been jacking up the front of the engine while raising and lowering the trans jack to minimal success. Any words of wisdom? and btw the driveaxles, driveshaft, etc has been disconnected. Am i not jacking up the front of the engine far enough?

All I can say is that you really need to have them lined up well for them to slide together or apart, and it's hard to tell because it can tilt in multiple directions. Often some shaking will help; at some point in the shaking, they'll be lined up, and they'll move then.

Usually, once I'm at the point where the studs are the only part left connecting them, they come apart pretty easily. This may be a dumb question, but you did unbolt the pitch stop mount, right?

Oh, and this isn't a turbo, is it? If it is, did you remove the clutch fork? The throwout bearing is attached to the fork and also clipped into the pressure plate, so you have to remove the spindle that the fork rotates on.

If it's a non-turbo trans and If you can reach between the trans & engine, you may want to check that the clutch fork is not caught on the pressure plate and keeping you from separating the engine & trans.

Ill check the clutch fork after work. I can see thread on the pass side stud, so I'm almost there. I guess I gotta finesse it

How many miles on the clutch? Might want to consider replacing that while you're in there.

200 miles on the clutch. i didnt seat the rms properly when i rebuilt the engine, just got it started and noticed i was leaking oil something fierce. All this for that stupid little seal. Clutch kit is a brand new exedy oem. Really wanted to throw a lightweight flywheel in but turns out thems expensive.
