Head Swap Ctd.

Post by William D. Robinson »

First in response to Dave's question. A naturally aspirated 98 2.5 RS engine has about the same power as a stock turbo EJ22T engine and about 35 more hp than a naturally aspirated 2.2. The difference in hp can cot be entirely accounted for by displacement, so it stands to reason that they achieved this improvement in power through greater volumetric efficiency, i.e better flow.

Now for Jason's comment. Jason, I know that the bottom end of a 98 2.5 RS is a flimsey piece of open-decked shit, but the combination of its better flowing heads and twin cams mated to our closed deck genuine turbo lower end might be a wonderful hybrid. FYI: Subaru beefed up the bottom end in 99, but that engine has only one cam per bank and it is still an open-deck engine not suitable for serious boost. I know that my son's heads say "NA" on them, which I would interpret as standing for "naturally aspirated" i.e. non-turbo. Does anyone know for sure how the WRX solid lifter equipped quad cam heads differ from their NA counterparts?
