Starter Issues, Need Help!!

Ok, here we go. So this past weekend we had a cold front move in, and about 8 inches of snow, got pretty cold. I went to start the car saturday night, and i heard a single click from under the hood, but the started would not engage. So i tried turning the key a few more times, and just still a single click with every turn. So i popped the hood, wiggled around the battery cables, and tried the switch again. This time, the starter engaged and turned over very very slowly then the car started. So i let the car warm up for five mins or so, then drove to the grocery store. As soon as i pulled in the parking lot, shut it off, then attempted to start it back up. Turned the key and the starter engaged and cranked fast like it always did and the car started fine. Got everything i needed, got back in the car, turned the key and it cranked slowly again but started. Got home, and havent been able to get it started since. The starter will not engage whatsoever, only the single click with each turn of the key. Today i looked at the cables and they did have the white corrosion between the clamp and battery post, also noticed the bare wire that connects to the clamps had a dull green color. I also tried to run a jumper wire from the positive battery post to the terminal on top of the starter, ( the terminal that is covered up by the plastic boot). Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of what they think the problem is? Before i drop the starter and get it tested, i want to rule everything else out. The battery in the car is less than a year old. I tried to be as detailed as possible, any questions please ask. Thanks in advance.
