22t 5mt + Ej20g

Post by Weazel240 »

Hey guys,

Stock 5 speed box and rear diff.
Upgraded act clutch
with an EJ20G engine swap with the basic
Intake, tbe, apexi pfc pushing approx 280whp.
Will the stock tranny survive daily and spirited driving?

Or should i seek for a full ej20g trans/rear set up?

thanks a bunch!

It really is going to depend on how you drive and treat the trans. That's going to be the case with any 5mt, ej22t or ej20g. The ej20g trans typically has lower gears, 4.11 or so, which helps take some of the stress off the trans compared to the ej22t trans's 3.90 final drive.

I've got a 92 sport sedan with a EJ20G. I was told (or under the assumption) that it hada stock sport sedan US transmission. But the rear diff is a 4.11 , does this mean that ive got EJ20G gearset in the car?

Sorry for the off topic post. Either way my transmission is pretty stout!

If you have a 4.11 final drive ratio and the matching set in the trans, then you likely do not have a US ej22t trans. It's possible someone could have switched the diff, but that's a lot more work than just swapping in a different trans.

Any chance someones got the part #'s for the trans? Something to that effect.

Either way my transmission is solid! Running .85 Bar boost on a fairly low powered setup and it takes some abuse !

There will be a number on the side of the bell housing, it'll start with a TY, TZ or something like that. You should be able to use that in trying to determine where the trans came from.

Should be fine for the most part just don't do many or any awd burnouts, I did it way to many times and stripped the 2nd gear input and output gears. My car has a ej20g, ej22t 5mt Trans, vf39. daily driven.
