Hi,
I'm wondering if some Tein Flex coilovers designed for '02-'07 WRX would work on my '93 SS Sedan. I understand that the front camber plates will be at an angle... is this a bad thing? Will the rears work with a top hat change or do I need to drill my car? I am somewhat confused on if you can put rear GD top hats on a GC? Top hats are what the strut mounts to on the car? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Re: GD Coilovers
I'm going to pick up these coilovers today after work if they will work with my car so if anyone has info on this that would be awesome. I have tried to search this stuff but am having trouble finding info on this specific situation ('93 SS with '02-'07 WRX coilovers...). Is this an easy swap? I know that GC coilovers will fit without modification but I have not been able to find a good set for sale and am getting sick of waiting. These GD coilovers are local so I'm going to pick them up if putting them on my car isnt' too much of a hassle? Thanks again!
Re: GD Coilovers
they will work but not quite right.
the front tops being at an angle is fine and gets you more caster.
the rear tops do not fit into the strut towers. best option would be to get some GC rear top mounts. plenty of people, including myself, have drilled out the holes to make the fit.
the other problem is that the wider track of the wrx means the lower mounts are a little different. this can cause a little bit of binding of the rear dampers.
if you wait and shop around, or save up and get something new specifically for a GC, they will fit and work MUCH better. Having used GD suspension on both my Legacys, I probably wouldn't do it again, mostly because of all the side load the rear strut sees at rest.

Jamal,
Thanks for the reply! I have been reading through old threads on here all day and I have read several of your posts/threads about suspension set ups. You are very knowledgeable about this stuff!
I know I should probably wait for some decent GC coilovers. I actually have some AGX's on the car now but the main reason I'm wanting to go coilovers is that I picked up a set of STI ver 7 wheels. They have 225/45's and with the +53 offset of the wheels, my rear tires are hitting the conical part (right where the strug starts to flare out below the perch) of the spring perch on the rear strut. I have a broken spring up front and a blown strut in the rear, so I was thinking that instead of replacing those parts and being forced to run a large spacer for these wheels, I could just throw on some decent used coilovers, eliminating the flared out conical part of the spring perch, and hopefully that would allow me to run no spacer or maybe just a 5mm.
Any thoughts on a better way of solving this tire rubbing problem? I'm not really set on coilovers, I just thought it would be an ok way to solve this issue. I just put some Brembos on the car so I need some sort of 17" wheel to clear the calipers and I really love these Ver 7 wheels, so I'm pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to make them work. Let me know if you have any other suggestions!

Re: GD Coilovers
thanks, although I can't guarantee I knew what I was talking about in some of the older posts...
as far as fitting the wheels, it depends how close it is. if they just barely don't fit, you may be able to give the perch a couple taps with a hammer to give you clearance. On the later cars they moved the spring perches up a bit to provide more tire clearance. I'm running 225/45s on a +55 with a lot of negative camber and they fit.
