92 2.2t auto to manual swap questions?

Hey guys, I just picked up my first 2.2t, but with a blown 4EAT Transmission. I've been a GC guys for 8 years, so I want to do a 4.11 manual transmission swap. I already have the 4.11 LSD rear end on hand. I'm fully aware of what all needs to be done and rent out my own shop.... My question is, what year and models have 4.11 transmission, but are a cable driven speedo? Plus anyone who has done this swap before, what are so hick ups/ problems you ran into?
Thanks in advance!

That's a good link that details a lot of issues dealt with. As far as cable/electronic speedo, you unscrew the electronic pickup on the tranny and screw your mechanical one in. This opens up your options to trannys from cars such as:

2.5RS (98-05)
Legacy GT (97-04)
Outback (97-04 possibly later)
Forester (98-04 or later)
etc.

If you want a cable clutch based setup for simplicity, the 4.11's listed here will work (and are prob easier to find at a junkyard):

when did Subaru switch from cable driven clutches to hydraulic driven clutches?

I don't think they "switched," exactly... they just used hydraulic clutches with the EJ25, which was first used with a manual transmission in 1997. The EJ22 (and EJ18) always had a cable clutch until they stopped making it.

Hey josh did you have to use the 5 speed M/T rear drive shaft? Or are the A/T and M/T the same length?

I'm also wondering, since I will be using a N/A 5 speed transmission, don't I need to grab starter and flywheel with it too?

Yes I had to use the 5 spd MT drive shaft, the AT drive shaft is shorter.

Yes, if you don't have it, you'll need flywheel and starter.

So I got a good deal on a 4.11 out of a 98 outback, but its the 8 bolt style tranny and the 92 SS is obviously a 4 bolt style. So I lose the lower bolt for the starter on the 98 trans and starter set up. So I'm thinking I need to tap some threads into the block so I can put a bolt through and securely mount the new style starter?

Yes, I believe that's what you'll need to do. I'm not sure exactly where it needs to be tapped, but that's what I've heard others have done. I'll have to do something similar when I swap in my 6spd.

I'm also thinking that I might just find something the the studs on a turbo to put in place and make it kinda like the old school style. And use a nut to secure it down
