Hi everyone,
I got a 90 legacy gt (awd, turbo ej20, auto 4.44 open diff front-lsd rear) from a friend who had blew the front diff (cracked housing and all)
I have since removed the transmission and narrowed the problem to being no oil in the transfer case. Now i need to find a new gearbox, Can anyone tell me is the box the same as the non turbo models or is there any other car (even newer) that has the exact same gearbox, if the non turbo autos are different can i just but it and use only the non turbo bell housing/transfer case and the turbo rear.
Need this info asap people,
Thanks
Jason.

Re: Auto trans help asap
Welcome!
Since you're not USA (we didn't get GT's 'til '94 and didn't have any EJ20's 'til the '02 WRX), I'm not sure if we'll be much help.
In the USA, the turbo 4EATs were stronger - more clutches, etc. - and had a different Final Drive ratio in '91 between the turbos and non-turbos (NA) - 3.90 for turbos; 4.11 for NA. In '92-94 the turbos and NA were both 3.90 FD ratio.
We didn't get the 4.44 FD ratio 'til 'the '96 Legacy Outback/LSi/GT w/the EJ25 came out.
The WHOLE transmissions can be swapped - I installed a turbo trans in my '90 to replace an NA trans - but I don't know if the 'guts' can be swapped. BTW, if you use an NA trans get the TCU/TCM, too.

Re: Auto trans help asap
As Todd pointed out you can swap in another transmission. The one thing to remember is that if the final drive ratio is different than your 4.444 you'll need to swap the rear diff to match the final drive in the new transmission.
