FWD tranny in AWD car

Post by SILINC3R »

Cant find info for swapping my FWD tranny into my AWD auto. Should this be a problem? All info is on swapping a FWD to AWD but not swapping tranny. Thanks in advance.

[edit] can't read.

Tranny, crossmember, TCU, remove rear driveshaft.

Check the diagrams to see if the FWD TCU has the same pinouts as the AWD TCU (minus the AWD dutycycle solinoid). Also check the transmission connectors for same pinouts (minus the AWD soliniod).

I'm confused. How will you keep it awd AND have a FWD 5mt in there. 2 FWD trannies? lol

Of course you can swap in your 90's tranny, with the parts Phyrram mentioned.

There's some vids on youtube of a guy with a FWD 1.8T Impreza in Hawaii. Thing hauls ass. Might as well have a turbo'd neon or civic though, lol.

I think he means he's keeping the rear end. I would think it would be the same as any swap with removing the driveshaft and using the FWD transmission mount.

Yeah Tony it can be done,

I think what isn't clear is that you mean you want to take your FWD 5MT and put it into your AWD 4EAT car.... it's a larger swap than what's described above (clutch pedal, shifter linkage and all that, etc). Sure can be done though. Especially since you have a "donor car" :)

And I assume you mean you'd be swapping the 4EAT into the 90 ?
