Garage Door Lip

I know there are a couple threads about this, but I had to reattach mine after a scrape with a curb, so I thought I'd take some pictures.

So here we go:

I was screwing mine in to the bottom of the bumper, which in retrospect was not a great idea. But, having already made a bajillion holes on the first go around, I realized that it wasn't sustainable, and that the next time I damaged the lip the front bumper would be completely shot. So, solution...speed clips.

This is a role of the material I used, I could only find a suitable piece at Lowe's. Everything anymore is some kind of soft rubberized foam. This is still rubberized foam, but it's A LOT more firm. In any case, i'll try to get a upc or something.

Image

While at Lowe's, I also purchased some 26 gauge sheet metal to make braces with,

Image

which we then cut in to thin strips,

Image

and some rounded corner pieces.

Here's the first brace going on from the underside.

Image

And the next corner piece going on. We had to cut reliefs, a couple small cut out triangles, at the corners.

Image

Here's an outside view of how it's going on at this point.

Image

Most of the underside just calls for small 6 or so inch braces. Two pre-drilled holes and bent up a little to add pressure.

Image

Fine adjustment so it floats around evenly (ish). I'll have to heat gun it a tad to get a couple of the waves out.

Finished product (minus heatgunning).

Are all of your friends' faces pixilated?

Thanks Kimo.

Beatersubi, Yeah, they're all in the witness protection program. Haha, nah, I wasn't sure if they wanted their faces everywhere online so it was easier to just pixelate them out than ask them.
