I just purchased this vehicle...i love it, I had a 2003 subaru impreza outback sport but was a piece o junk (was wrecked and I was not told before being sold and had major issues from there over 5 years). I bought this car for a thousand dollars...so I know problems will be there but the engine looks great and what have you. My main question is actually about the drivetrain?
It is FWD!!!!
I have never seen a subi with fwd...I read a few places stating it was available to add AWD to the model. Where? How much? is it even possible?
Thanks!

You can do a awd swap. You need a trans, rear dif, drive line, awd gas tank, rear axels and hubs. And mabey some stuff I'm forgetting.

Re: 1992 Subaru Legacy question
Welcome to the site! Legacy777 has done that swap, as well as a couple other members. Here's a link with information in pics: http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/swap.html
Question for you though. Do you really need awd? Because your sitting on one of Subaru's most fuel efficient Legacys right there.
Also, the swap from FWD to AWD requires a lot of parts sourcing and downtime for your car. My guess is you'll spend about what you spent on your car, just for parts and fluids, if not more. If you need AWD, my opinion is that you'd make out better selling yours and buying one that has it. Awd optional till either 96 or 97.

Welcome to the BBS.
I'd concur with Mike in that if you want AWD, it's going to be cheaper to find an AWD car. Unless you can find an AWD car as a donor, there's a few little things that can add up if you need to get them

Re: 1992 Subaru Legacy question
Thanks for the response guys! I figured that was going to be the case...The thing is fun to drive and has tons of power for the year and size...the guy I bought it from did a great job inside the engine bay (everything is perfectly clean and even cold air intake was put in!)
I know this model also could come with Turbo would this need just a bolt on turbo? Or more parts as well? These are projects I kinda just want to know about and put on the "maybe one day" list for the car.
Also the car is in great shape does anyone know what the car would be worth?
Thanks again guys! (gals too!)

Re: 1992 Subaru Legacy question
The engine is different between the turbo & non-turbo models. The front crossmember is different, as well as there being some additonal sensors & electronics. There are several folks, including myself that have swapped in a turbo motor and the associated parts. So it's certainly doable. I'd suggest searching the bbs. There's several threads with info on what all it takes.
Here are the pictures from my turbo engine swap.
