Code 35 and not cranking

Post by xise »

Ok So I had this car sitting for a month or so with no battery for a while and finally got one by chance the other day so I figured I'd start it up. Well I go to start it and I get nothing more than a click, followed by the engine light blinking a few times, and I could hear the purge solenoid or the boost control solenoid clicking. So I check the code and get 35 for the solenoid.

I just think it's odd that it won't start at all, it should run and drive w/ or w/o that code present...The battery has 12.6 Volts even after trying to start it a few times, and it is drawing 2.2 amps while the key is on. So it has the juice to start it just won't. I also got a feint gas smell also, not sure how it could be flooded or anything but it would still try to turn over regardless...unless there was A LOT of gas in the cylinder...any suggestions?

It started and ran fine before I pulled the battery a month ago, are there any stupid sensors that would prevent a startup that tend to just shit the bed for no good reason???

I also forgot to mention I get a steady clicking noise from under the dash if I leave the key in "ON" after trying to turn the key to start...like a relay keeps energizing itself, it sounds like under dash but if a solenoid is clicking loud enough you could mistake it for that....something is going on here that should be an easy fix once it is isolated.

You have the green diagnostic connectors connected. This is what's causing the relays to click. I would suggest ensuring that both the green & black diagnostic connectors are unplugged.

I'm not sure if it's related to your no-start condition, but I would suggest starting with ensureing the diagnostic connectors are disconnected.

Where did the battery come from? Have you tried swapping batteries from another car to see if this battery works there?

It was a Valu craft battery from this guys 01 RS. It isn't the same size as my 04 Imprezas battery it is smaller and has less cranking amps.....I was pretty sure all 4 cyl subarus used the same batteries. Still it isn't even trying to crank so I suspect it is not battery related.

I am almost positive I disconnected both sets of diag wires when I was done, but I will check again. I had some trouble with my inhibitor switch before, but it was just a bad connection...maybe it finally kicked the bucket and I need a new switch. I'll check t those few things but I am not getting my hopes up.
