HEAD SWAP NOT RECOMMEND FROM OZ

Ben Taylor at MRT is as puzzled as I am about the pedigree of these US Turbo
Legacy heads. Seems like we need a pipeline into Subaru. Anybody?

This whole thing has been an exercise in academics for me. Keep your eyes
peeled for someone out there that can give us flow figures for ported and
polished 2.2 Turbo heads. Maybe Trey Cobb would do a job on the stock heads
he used for his tech article if someone would buy the resulting product.

In the meantime, my real world project is putting the first step together. I
have located a source (finally) for a stock Japan version Legacy Turbo
air-to-water intercooler. Just have to round up the rest of the
system...pump, water radiator, hoses, etc. Universal off-the-shelf type
stuff, should be no problem. One thing I might need from overseas is the
conversion to convert my windshield washer reservoir or maybe a new
INTERCOOLER WATER RESERVOIR if a conversion is not available. I don't use
the windshield washers so no biggie. Also would like to get STOCK DUCTING
AND CLAMPS for cooler to turbo and throttle body if not too crazy in price.
Maybe I'll be back to you Ben for those items if you can provide them, and I
run out luck with USA sources.

Probably the best alternative to a complete head swap would be to get the
standard heads ported and polished for better flow. As you say, it would need
to be a pretty good head job to make it worthwhile though.

I am with you, and would have thought that your 2.2L heads would have been
very similar to the 2L turbo heads. The actual real world performance gain
from going to the time and expense of swapping heads is still something that
I am not convinced of though. We haven't ever done it over here, as we didn't
see the 2.2L SOHC turbo version, only the 2L DOHC turbo Legacy/WRX versions.
If there is someone else out there on the list that has gone to the effort of
changing heads maybe they could comment further.

If I can get time I will surely drop by and check out the list! If there is
anything else I can help with in the meantime please feel free to ask.
