Hey im New to subaru here and was wondering what are the differences as far as putting a turbo on a N/A ej22 or is this just not done... i just picked up a 91 legacy wagon ej22 5mt that im thinking of a few mods.. also i know this is the wrong area but is the turbo hood a direct "bolt on" for a non turbo?

The turbo hood is a direct bolt on.

Welcome to the BBS.

I'd suggest searching the BBS. There are a lot of threads with info on the differences, and what it takes.

Check out Someperson's recent thread as a starter.

thanks.. I figured it was like my rx7 and a direct bolt on for the hood... and the engine from what i read there seems like i need a lower compression and to drill the heads for the oil then strap on the bold on stuff and your good

Not exactly. Sure you can throw on a turbo and get it to work but it will be a ticking time bomb if you're running it over 3-5psi and even then it's playing with fire. If you want to run a turbo on an N/A motor you want to go in and replace your stock internals with forged internals (rods, pistons, bearings, crank) if you plan on long term use of a turbo on an N/A EJ22.

plus you will need a turbo cross member for a uppipe to fit. so you can even have a turbo.
