Heater switch help

Wifes 93 legacy heater blower switch was acting intermitent, now not working. I need a good how to remove the fascia of the dash to get to it.
She could hit the top of the dash to make it work when it wouldn't go, now it won't work even with that.
Idea's???

The lights come on for the heater/ ac control buttons, and since it did work when tapped I think its getting power. Anyone else have problems with the switch on high mile cars?

My wife's was doing the same thing and I had to replace the swich. It took me a few days to get a swich so I made a jumper wire with conectors and made it work till I got a swich. The 90-91 HVAC had soldering issues but the 92-94 is a different design and fix those issues.

Is the 92-94 switch interchangeable with 90-91?

Plug end are different but I've read that some person on here has done the conversion. I'm sure changing the plug is the only change that needs to be done.

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the switch? Dealer? Any one know what exactly happens to the switch?

The switch had melted at the main power prong. I had a used one at my dads house that I swapped it out with. I don't believe they burn out often. All three of my cars have very high mileage and only have changed one.

I did the job yesterday. The switches pop out pretty easy, using a small flat screw driver in the corner carefully, it doesn't ruin it and worked great. The link to remove the instrument panel is good for the screw locations, the ash tray bracket only needs the 2 outer screws removed, and takes a very short driver to do it.
The 93 legacy heater ac control is not like the one in the link. Its a pain to get it apart, the switch is a very durable design and looks like it will last forever, solder points on the switch PCB looked okay as well as the connector, though I did just redo a few of them, the connector is screwed to the PCB and that helps make it solid enough that it won't move and work the solder joints. I also resoldered the wires that connect to the switch, but they looked okay before doing that. So now if there is a problem, I would suspect a relay or something else.
I would like to know if a computer is involved with the heater and ac on this car? That would be suspect as well.

There's no computer involved with the HVAC system unless you have the automated climate control. If it's just the manual HVAC system, which it sounds like it is, there's no computer.

If no link to the ECU then I'm wondering how it would know to step up idle speed with the AC on? Most all newer vehicles do that.

I guess I should rephrase what I said. There is no computer controling the HVAC system. The ECU does have an input from the HVAC system, specifically the AC button, and then has an output for the AC clutch so it can disengage the AC clutch when throttle is at 100%.

As you mentioned, the ECU also will adjust idle when it receives the AC switch input.
