Shuttering on acceleration

Post by robertpaige »

So about a month ago, I was hitting an on-ramp. The car hit about 5k and I was in 3rd gear, I shifted into drive, and it started shuttering and bogging down.. I was like 'oh sh*t' and bumped it into neutral. It revved up just fine, bumped it back to drive, and it was bogging... bumped back to neutral and back to drive and it fixed itself. So I was like 'whew' and then last night, I was in D and on the on-ramp, hit around 5kish and then it shifted, but then started shuttering and bogging, so I was like 'crap' and shifted into neutral, gave it some revvs, shifted back a few times and it fixed itself. When it was shuttering my boost gauge was bouncing pretty hard.. i'm wondering wtf this is?

The previous owner said something about a sensor in the transmisison needing to be replaced.. he couldn't remember the name of it and said it's what his mechanic told him. So i'm wondering it that has anything to do with it. Also, there are 2 rubber hoses coming from the top of the transmission that tuck right underneath the dog bone that have been cut and ziptied... idk wtf that is. Looks like coolant lines? Anyways, I think it's a tranny issue since when I shift to N it revvs just fine and smooth. Also I might add that my VF11 is pretty much blown out totally so maybe that might have something to do with it also.

Thoughts?

Umm....I had a somewhat similar issue many years ago where the car would bog down and sometimes die. I could usually put it in neutral and rev the engine to bring it back. Turned out to be the MAF sensor.

Regarding the hoses, how big of diameter hoses are they? There are two small vent hoses on top of the trans, but the heater hoses, which are larger also run in that area as well.

They are two small hoses open ended, maybe about 8milimeters if not smaller. And yeah, sounds like what is going on with my car. It boggs down real hard but I can rev it up to bring it back. Maybe I'll look into getting a new MAF.

Yeah, those sound like the vent tubes....they're fine.
