So on the 90 Legacy Sedan 5MT. The front U-joint broke and took out the linkage. Went to the junkyard and grabbed a 2 piece drive shaft from a 93 Sedan.
Low and behold the 90 has a 1 piece (which I never knew to begin with). Thought oh well. Put in it...And it's shorter...?
Didnt think that part of the cars changed between the Pre and Post facelifts.

Re: Driveshaft issues
Was the 93 sedan an auto?

Re: Driveshaft issues
93 sedan was a 5 speed. Was about 3-4 inches too short. Yoke barely went in enough. Not sure whats going on.

Re: Driveshaft issues
I'm sure if its 5spd it the same size. My 92 two piece driveline fit in my 90 that had a one piece.

Re: Driveshaft issues
In this case it was not. Driveshaft was all hooked up onto the manual tranny in the 93. Took the full thing out......Does not fit on the 90 without the yoke hanging out 3-4 inches.

Re: Driveshaft issues
I can tell you with 100% confidence that the two-piece drive shaft fits just fine on a 90 Legacy that originally had the one-piece drive shaft. There is no difference between drive shaft lengths between sedan and wagons. There are only different lengths between the AT & MT drive shafts.
As for the driveshaft you grabbed not fitting, was there any other damage besides the linkage that could be causing the issues your seeing?
The only other thought I have on the drive shaft not fitting is the rear diff was swapped out for one from a newer Subaru. The newer style rear diffs are a little longer and as a result the drive shaft is a little shorter, about 2.5". My 6spd swap thread has some more details and pics talking about this.
Any chance of going back to the junkyard and looking at the rear diff and possibly taking a picture?
Unless there is further damage somewhere, I'm not sure what else would cause what you're seeing.
