Big Oil Leak...

So long story short, I pulled my heads off, fixed em, and put em back on. I also put my TD04 on.
Now I have a massive oil leak... went through 5+ quarts of oil in a weekend. Its kinda burning a little off through the exhaust when I really get on it but so does my friends legacy and he says that because of some "catch can" we don't have, idk. But where most of the oil is going, is from the driver side and back of engine (near the tranny). I have read on hear a little and how maybe the cam seals on the back of the head may be bad/wrong but with the pics I have, it doesn't look like it. Some people think it may be my rear main seal but idk. When I was getting my exhaust put on, I dripped about 1/4-1/2 quart in like an hour and half... Like I said, it's a TON of oil coming out and I don't feel safe driving it (and I feel rude dripping so much oil in parking lots)

The metal arm under the red wire was clean of everything because i used degreaser and pressure washed it

Looks kind of like mine currently. I have a leaking rear main seal on my car yours is much more apparent. Did you block the oil jacket when you did the headgaskets on that side? I did that once as well. the oil jacket on the driver side is at the front closest to the radiator where on the passenger side is toward the firewall. also check your breather hoses and make sure you have those correct, if they arent you will blow through a ton of oil (done that too lol). Hopefully this helps you. One way to check to see if its the headgasket is unplug your coil pack and spray brake cleaner over all the side thats leaking have somebody inside crank the car, if you have a plugged oil jacket it will start seeping out immediately.

Did it do this before the head fix and turbo swap? i notice coolant as well under there all lines tight? check your oil feed line as well and make sure that is tight. Hopefully this helped point you in a direction

That's a lot of oil.. only thing I would say is make damn sure that oil return line for the turbo is tight, but that is on the passenger side.

Did you install the new oem head gasket correctly?

Yea the oil return line is fine, it's completely dry around the outside.

I'm pretty sure. It only went on one way with all the water jackets. And yes, it is oem and new lol.

The head gasket seemed as though it went on only one way so I don't believe I covered anything up.

The breather hoses are good, they arn't leaking anything from the valve covers.

And the only oil it was leaking before the fix was from bad valve cover gaskets but it wasnt leaking as dramatically as this is. They were just dripping a little every now and then to make it smoke under the hood.

The coolant everywhere, that situation has been assessed and is working good lol.

But when I got it on the road, I kinda ran it pretty hard for the first 100-200 miles... Dunno if that was the best idea. Some people say its best to break it in by running hard but more people say to ease it in. Also, a guy I know said something about using thicker oil to break it in and seal all the seals. I just used regular 5-30.

I guess I'll try the coil pack thing, it's just hard to work on it now that I've got a second job recently and still go to school full time lol

im in the process of breaking in my ej22t, full rebuild pistons rings etc. I have about 250 miles on the motor with just normal driving, not beating on it hard, but not babying it either. Its a good possiblity that the gasket went in wrong, they will fit any which way you put them on. That oil passage is what you have to look at not the water jackets. This may be your problem. Especially with that much oil

You've got something installed or not installed properly when you did the head gasket. I just don't see any other reason why you would go through that much oil.

Go back over all the work you did when you did the head gasket to make sure everything is tight and installed properly.

Problem Resolved: It was a rubber cap that plugged the hole camshaft hole. The Pass side has a metal cover and I forgot the rubber cap for the driver side... Unfortunatley, while I was delivering Jimmy Johns, I ran dry. I quickly put oil in it after I checked the dip stick after work. Later that night/next morning, it started to tick. Got louder and started knocking and finally really loud intermittent whapping sounds and severe loss of power... Awesome.

Crappy....sound like a spun bearing to me. Most likely from oil starvation.

That's what Greg(Slodrive) said it probably is. If it is, does that mean my block halves are basically toast? just scrap em lol

No, the block halves are probably ok. I wouldn't suggest driving it any more though. Time for a rebuild.

^ yep. Lookin at buying a complete ej22t engine with 120k from a guy around here. Slowly save money to rebuild the bad one. Find some little car to put the engine in >:) like a beetle or GL woo! Still, this May kinda sucks, motor blew and a week later my car got broken into and lost about $300 worth of sound system :/
