So I went to do new pads and rotors the other day, but my new pads will not clear my calipers. Pistons are fully depressed, the inner pad will fit, but the caliper is coming down onto the top of the outside pad. I verified that I do indeed have the correct pads and rotors for a 93 SS. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some adjustment needed I am not aware of?

Some of the pads are really tight to get in there. It sounds like these may be too thick. Are you using shims or anything on the back of the pads? If so, you could try removing them for a little bit until the pads wear down and then put them back in.

Did you buy them locally or online? What brand?

theyre duralast pads, and removing the shims still wouldnt make them fit. Its like the caliper needs to "scoot" towards the outside a bit, but is stuck in the worn-pad position.

Does the caliper move back and forth easily on the caliper guide pins? If not, then you should try separating the caliper from the caliper mounting bracket, clean and regrease the caliper guide pins.

That was my line of thinking. I had to give a good effort to open the calipers in the first place so its probably just gunked/stuck.

You can take the bracket off and clean the sliders. If they're rusty sand them or drop them in vinegar to dissolve the rust. Grease them up (should be done every time brakes are done) and put them back together. Check to make sure they slide properly and you should be good to go.

The caliper should slide easily on the pins. If it doesn't, you're going to end up with really uneven wear. So yeah, clean and re-grease them.
