auto tranny suddenly overheating

I recently put in an jdm ej20 to replace a dead ej25 in a 2001 legacy.
Took the ej25 manifold and put it onto the new shortblock.

Drove fine for a month. Had cel p1507 and p0507. Air idle control valve.
Went on a long drive last weekend and the tranny oil light came on. now it will not make the 24 mile drive to work in traffic without the tranny overheating.

Plan to take out the iacv and clean it.

P1507 is also the inhibitor switch in a manual trans. Is.that the same with a auto?
Tranny oil and filter are new. Engine is not overheating just the tranny.

Any ideas?

Some things to add.
Tranny fluid and filter are.new not sure of the when the fluid was changed if ever.
I drained some of the fluid and it was a deep maroon color, not the bright red.
Is it possible that the new fluid lossened up some build up and the long drive clogged up the filter?

Manual transmissions do not have inhibitor switches, only automatics.

Can you clarify your comments. You said the tranny fluid & filter are new, but then say you don't know when or if the fluid was ever changed. So which is it?

I would suggest verifying whether the transmission cooler is working properly, and if it is I'd probably suggest changing the fluid to see if that helps.

I put new filter and fluid when I finished the swap.

Not sure if the previous Owner ever changed fluid.

Ok, so how many miles are the transmission since you changed the fluid & filter? Was the fluid light and pink color when you put it in?

You mentioned the fluid now looks dark red. Does it also smell burnt?

The fluid was new and I drove roughly 1200 miles since putting the filter & fluid change.

It doesn't smell burnt.

OK. I'm an idiot. Flashing trans oil light =problem not hot oil.
Pressure sensor is bad. Used tranny pan as a jacking point.

Anyone know the interchange for this part?

The 4EAT trans is used on the mid-90's Subarus as well, so I would suspect you could probably use one of those. I'd try to stick with a phase 1 4EAT trans, which went up until about the late 90's I think.

He used a tranny that's electrically compatible with an 01 Legacy Josh, so I'd think he needs to find a phase II tranny part, or did that not change?

Ok, I missed that. Yeah if he used one from a 2001 Legacy, then yeah, you'll want to use a phase 2 4EAT.

Hi,
I did the same - jacked up the car on the trans pan - early in my Subaru 'fix-it' days. I only broke a wire - not the actual sensor - so I'd suggest dropping the pan and looking for a broken wire. Although it would make sense to have the part avl to swap, if needed (but you may not be able to return it, as is the case for some electrical parts).
