heater blower problems

When I got the car the heat or defrost would only work on setting 1,2 and 3. And when I press the defrost button a loud constant click would happen for like 5 minutes.. well now all of the sudden no matter what button I chose it only blows air through the top of the dash . No air in your face no air at your feet Its like its stuck on defrost setting.
