New member and owner of a 1993 turbo SS.
Most expensive $300 car I've ever owned. Came with cracked or blown head gaskets. One owner car with straight body, very clean interior. Got lucky and found 1991 with 115,000 on it with bad body and good motor for $750 within a weeks time.
Yeah sure I'll fix it up. Pluck and pull and stuff in good car. Been there done that before with two NA 1992 Legacy wagons. Lifted one and swapped 4EAT for 5MT.
The help here included oil squirters in pan in "good" 91 engine, PCV routing, parts, 5MT swap, schematics oil cooler in 1991 and LSD from 1991, and burping that car endlessly to relieve air block in coolant system, and new downpipe.
Told my wife to just kick me in the nuts, if I ever say I'm going to rebuild another turbo car.
Turbo is a different animal both in the garage and on the road. That car has kicked my butt all summer. But is on the road again thanks to your collective help. Without this website and your contributions of knowledge I wouldn't have gotten it done.
I have driven over 800,000 miles in a NA Subaru.
425,000 in 1992 Legacy Wagon-RIP
100,000 in 1992 Wagon - lifted
341,000 in 1997 Outback Wagon
Now I'm moving on with miles of smiles with boost in the 1993 Legacy SS. Was able to take back to stock configuration with donor car. Its plenty zippy for me with hopefully daily driver reliability.
Don't even want to add up receipts from NAPA / Subaru Dealership.
I forget about that for just a moment as I climb 6 mile long grade headed home from work. Climbs the Lewiston Hill, in North Idaho famed for song "Hot Rod Lincoln" effortlessly like I'm driving wife's Dodge Durango Hemi RT.
I'd bet I'm showing my age with "Hot Rod Lincoln" reference.
Thanks again to all of you.
Reuild/swap done. A big thanks to all.

Hi,
Welcome to the BBS!
Glad you're enjoying the SS. This site has been great for all my Subie projects, too.

Welcome, and yeah I'm glad all the information has been helpful!
As you found out, the turbo cars/engines are a different animal and much more involved from a parts, costs, and everything compared to the non-turbo cars, but they are more fun as well
