Hi, I'm new to Subaru, CARS infact (truck person)
Gotta cool 1990 LS Wagon which was/is WET. Of course, electric gremlins follow but first order is get the WET out.
Looks like roof & windshield seals are sun/weather damaged. The roof seal running front to rear, each side, above the doors looks like somebody did a 1/2 ass job of trying to fix with mobile home sealer -- This I can fix, structural silicone (basicly, aquarium glue) which works GREAT -- cleaned real well first, prep/prime with MEK/acetone, apply with CARE - but is VERY permanent... It aint coming off I mean NOTHING cuts this stuff, if ever removed it's with pliers and scraper and TIME (oh gawd ALOT)
it's the WINDSHIELD and MOON-roof I'm leery of. .. (Things we might need to replace/repair) They both intact but the rubber-oid seals need replacing? Or??
Moon-roof works nicely but not always -- so it gots to come out to have new rubbers put in -- and the Gremlins exterminated -- how to be damn sure "they" kill the gremlins in the same shot they changes the rubbers...
Right now we're wearing FOIL duck-tape drying out... Don't want to get the silicone into anything that might have to come apart, it will "crawl" into cracks, which then become a SOLID
Anyone had and solved this?
THANK YOU
Bobby in Knoxville

I will bet that the sun roof is leaking which is very common on our cars. Some times all it needs is the drain tube cleaned so the water has a place to go instead of in the car. Rubbers would help also not sure if Subaru still can get them.
I had a 91 with a sun roof that I ended up tastefully siliconing it shut and that stopped the wetness in mine.

Re: WET! '90 LS Wagon
I read the (REALLY GREAT) topic on sunroofs -- when we finally get a fair day or 2 here I'm going to go huntin the drain tubes (if they can be seen without dismantling the car) Couldn't get a clear idea wether those were reasonably easy to accessrallyak wrote:I will bet that the sun roof is leaking which is very common on our cars. There was a couple very nicely detailed descriptions how to completely fix it -- seems to be within my ability / tools. if I only had a garage.
Only trouble is the pictures were gone and the website references also dead

I'm fine with the "taped shut" option for now but it's too hot here in summer (SE United States) to not make use of COOL-roof -- gasoline too high to run AC.
THANKS
