Dash lights and rear speaker wiring

Post by Danteandsoob »

So the dash lights on my 93 legacy L sedan flipped from the right side not working to the left side not work, so I know it electrical. I have already checked the fuses and they are fine. (I'd like to see what speed I'm going at night lol)

The other issue is the rear audio speakers tend to stop giving sound every once and a while, and they sometimes come back on when hit a bump or drive the car a certain way. I've checked all connections that are showing (not the ones that run under the carpeting.)

Any help would be great!

Have you checked the bulbs? I believe the cluster gadges are on the same circuit.

The rear speaker issue is probably in the radio, they loose channels with the age.

You've probably got an issue where something might have rubbed through the wiring harness behind the dash or a connector may possibly be loose.

Either way, unless you start disassembling things, it's going to be tough to diagnose exactly what the problem is.

Gonna try to, but that's ^^^^ what I think the cause is. Where should I start disassembling?

You could pull the seats and carpet to eliminate those possibilities in the harness, its easier than pulling the dash.

All the wiring associated with the lights and stuff are behind the dash and go through the fire wall. So the dash is really where you need to start. To remove the dash taking the radio out helps. Most of the main bolts holding the dash in are pretty easy to get to by popping little plastic covers off. The black trim bezel around the gauge cluster & the gauge cluster need to be removed. You'll need to probably remove the steering wheel and lowering the steering column helps in getting the dash out. It can be removed with one person but it sucks! I'd suggest trying to get someone to help you. Also, removing the seats does give you a little more room.

You could try poking your head around under the dash and see if you notice anything obvious before pulling the dash.

I'd give a different stereo unit a shot. When a friend of mine got a 93 wagon, some of the speakers didn't work until he replaced the stereo. The stock unit was his issue.
