I have a 1993 Legacy and I am trying to get all of the suspension in good working order so I can drive without fear of death. I figured out most of the front problems already but the rear is a different story. When I jack up the rear of the car I can move the wheel in and out a bit. It looks like I need a few bushings here:
After looking at this diagram I have determined that the part I need is number 7 for the front lateral link bushing. Is that correct?
What confuses me is that in my photo there seems to be a bushing on the knuckle, number 5 in the above diagram, but no bushing is listed. Do I have to buy the whole knuckle to replace that bushing? Is the knuckle called something else and causing my searches to be fruitless?

That also crossed my mind, because the way the wheel is moving seems like a bad wheel bearing to me. The thing is, that bushing also seems to be bad, so I was going to start with the cheaper option first and hope that corrects the issue.
Bushings aren't easy, and if you are going to replace them do them all. I bought mine from Ralli spec STI ones but I believe wheel bearing is cheaper and easier.

Yeah I am going to knock them all out at once. It's only $220 for all of the bushings for the rear and two that I haven't already bought for the front. Not bad for basically completely replenishing the suspension.
Care to share a link to the sway bar compatible lateral link?
You can also go aftermarket with those. I have the turn in concepts poly bushings and really like them. They are a split bushing so you just push in each half by hand to install. They come in race and street hardness.
Mine are made by turn in concepts in ohio, you can get them there or from a dealer (like me for example). There are two versions, a race 95a graphite lubricated version and then a softer street 70a hardness. I have the race version, which gives a thunk from the rear similar to what you get from an alk in the front, plus a little extra tire noise.
