Pressure Testing

Post by William D. Robinson »

I have a homemade rig for testing for intercooler, BOV and pipe leaks. I use a capped piece of black ABS pipe with a tire stem and valve in the turbo end and plug the throttle body end with a can of corn. Don't eat the corn, as a full can is stronger than an empty one. I immerse the whole thing in a tub of water and slowly feed it pressure with a 12v tire inflator. I am still plagued with wierd whistling noises that spound like boost leaks, but I am pleased with how well my car pulls.

Pressure Testing

That whistling could be a myriad of things. :) The 95-96 Eclipse/Talon turbo twins when equipped with a specific Upper intercooler pipe will whistle as well. Just the sound of the air going around, though, etc the BOV opening. Ours being vastly different then yours. As long as its holding boost, everything is Ok. My friend that test their systems, test to 30psi. That way they are positive they have no leaks in the system.
