Hey Everyone,
I have a 93 Subaru Liberty/Legacy with a 2.2 ltr Non-Turbo Engine and
I am considering getting an Exhaust upgrade.
I saw a second hand Stainless Steel Rear Exhaust off a WRX for sale
going for really cheap, but it has a 2.5 inch Diameter bore on it.
Can anyone tell me if 2.5 inch is too big for my car.
I just don't want to be loosing any more power from getting a too-
large of an exhaust.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Daniel..

2.5" should be as large as most small-displacement NA cars should run
without serious modifications. The more you do to your car, the more
fuel you burn and the more air you'll use, so the larger exhaust will
help. It'll also help at higher RPMs.
You *may* notice a slight drop in torque at the low end, but i can't
say for sure.

Oh yeah you will. Unless you're planning on more serious mods in the future,
a 2 inch or 2 and a quarter would be better (IMHO).

3" on a turbo. The less backpressure, the better. But that's debateable by
some.

Exhausts Dilema
Daniel-I`ve had the same dilemna: went to an exhaust shop where the guy did alot of aftermarket work on performance cars & recommended a 2.25" from the cats back. I`m now in process of turbocharging my NA motor @ about 7-8 lbs. boost max (no intercooler) & the only difference in my exhaust will be the 2.5" through the hi-flow cats. Otherwise, the 2.25" is just fine. The key for a 2.2 NA motor is: headers, hi-flow cat(s), 2.25" exhaust & an upgraded ignition. Get some cold air to that K&N filter & you`ll be very pleased with the results. Good luck---ROD (AZ.)

Exhausts Dilema
the toyota guys have a good site about exhausts
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7177 ... heory.html
but do some research, do some math, and decide what you think is best.
Again, if your plans do include lots of power, or just a turbo later on, a
2.5" - 3" is a good idea. If you're going to stay mild, stick with a 2" to
2.25"
