Correct. The oil pump drives off the crankshaft. It's right behind the cog.
You have to pull the oil pump. It's basically shaped like a horseshoe, or an
upside down letter "U". (I need to go get a scanner...) and the crank runs
directly through the arch. After removing the 7 bolts (remember this is from
FHI), you'll need a couple of screwdrivers to get behind it and lever it off
the engine block (careful: don't scratch the block). Drain the engine oil
first (duh). Drain the coolant (not sure why, but that's what it says).
Remove the belt covers & belts. Remove the water pump (not sure about that
one either). Then remove the oil pump.
FHI emphasises: Be careful not to scratch mating surfaces of cylinder block
and oil pump.
You'll need some "goup" or that weird sticky packing fluid to re-pack the
mating surfaces.
FHI also emphasises: Apply liquid packing to oil pressure switch threads
before installation. (I don't know what that means either because there is
no such definition in any of the pictures here as to what that switch is,
but they stated it for a reason).
This looks like a slightly complex proceedure... It also states: "inscribe
alignment marks on inner and outer rotors so that they can be replaced in
their original positions during reassembly. (those are the guts of the thing
FYI. They are round and bumpy.)
More FHI emphasis: Before removing the relief valve, loosen plug when
removing oil pump from cylinder block.
So you'll need to order an
O-ring
Front oil seal
And depending on what you find when you get there: an oil seal installer,
same as mentioned in previous posts...
Hope that helps...

Subject: [BC-BFLegacyWorks] Re: outer belt covers...
oh no, see that's where i got confused. now keep in mind this is
coming from the haynes manual. but it says under the crankshaft oil
seal replacement how to replace the seals but the caption under the
accompianing picture says to "pull the seal from the oil pump housing
taking care not to damage the crankshaft surface or the oil pump
housing". now what are they talking about? i'm thinking that since
the oil pump drives directly off of the crankshaft(correct?) that
this would be the crankshaft seal but i just want to make sure so i
know i have all the seals i need that should be replaced since i have
it all torn down anyway. and the chain wrench i was talking about
was just that-a wrench made from a chain to hold the crankshaft
pulley
thanks sam i really do appreciate all the help
