For those that want the assembly for a short shift kit . . . bidding closes in about a day:

That's the idea. It'll still bolt up but you can get a short shift lever that will fit this different linkage. NO SHORT SHIFTERS work for our stock linkage.

The sti one does. Dave has one in his wagon.

The STi design replaces all of the components found in the WRX linkage. They are pretty much the same unit, with very minor differences in the levers. I figure if someone wanted to pick this unit up for say $40 or so, they could get a short shift lever for $80 and for around $120 have a short shift kit . . . try and find an STi assembly for that much

Does the sti one have any advantages over doing the WRX shifter assembly and short shifter?

From what i hear the shift linkage really doesn't differ too much in terms of feel. Alot of people say that the stock linkage (in this case the wrx linkage) has identical parts . . . only difference being the lever, which isn't even that much different from the stocker!!

I had a kartboy shift lever in my GT and I loved it. Very short and precise throws.

Of course, my thoughts on the STi shifter are based on a lot of other people's remarks and not actual useage . . . But bang-for-the-buck, I really don't think the STi would be that much better. A couple people I know who have the STi units actually CHANGE the shift lever for a kartboy or similar

All I know is the stock WRX shifter sucks.....there's way too much throw. I have shifted several ones that have the SPT short throw shifter in it, and it's better.

Probably the best shifter I've used on a subie is on my buddy's 99 RS, with a short shifter installed. Extremely crisp and tight shifts, short throws. it's great.

STi_GUY, by all means get it!! That's why I posted the link . . . I have WAAAAY too many projects going on right now to add this one.

I figure I'll just have my friend try to copy the DIY short shifter on DLCs site. He's pretty good at welding stuff:)

WRX shifter in 91 legacy turbo?

Post by pjgaerlan »

I have a shifter linkage also. So this will bolt up into our linkage?? I was hoping so that I could get another perrin short shifter or a WRX shift lever to make it a shorter throw. Feels like I'm shifting a VW bus

Will this wRX shifter bolt in or is the legacy linkage diff?

Post by k2snow1 »

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

I heard that the STI short shifter will work but the joint that bolts up to the linkage and the tranny is different.

Please reply.

Thanks

DLC should be able to answer this question as I got the idea from his site.
