Interesting sales figures for the turbo legs . . .

Post by boostjunkie »

I knew this car was rare, but not this rare!

"1991 - 58 5-speeds were sold, and 149 automatics were sold.

1992 - 6 5-speeds were sold, and 5 automatics were sold.

1993 - 25 5-speeds were sold, and 45 automatics were sold.

1994 - 170 5-speeds were sold, and 230 automatics were sold.

This is a total of 688 of these vehicles sold and only 259 5-speeds! Now subtract the usual road attrition and the 5-speeds have been lost to rally competetion, and there can't be more than 100-200 left in the country."

Taken from:
http://www.visi.com/~jimcox/J&K_Subaru% ... 20page.htm

Proud to have one of the 58 5spd 91Ts!!

Makes me wonder . . . how many of the 688 sold have owners who are part of this board?

After seeing those US sales figures I often wonder what the Canadian figures were. They are pretty rare up here also especially 5-speeds. I found my car in the most bizarre way, I found it abandoned in some bushes near a house. So I talked to the owner into selling me the car for $1500 Canadian :D. It has only 90 000 miles on it too.

Whew! Your's must be one of 10 . . .

I guess I know why subaru took it out of the lineup.

Weren't emissions stepped up for the 1995 year? I thought Subaru dropped the turbo versions due to emissions.

I have seen two turbo BC-BF's in my whole life. One BF, which I have seen once and never again, and Subi Chicky's boyfriend just bought a BC turbo (boy has he done beautiful things to that car!!!)

Of course I'm in FL, so any Subaru is rare!!!

I told him to get involved, but I dunno, maybe they're not a bunch of losers like us who hang around Subaru forums 24/7

Those numbers can't be right. There is no way an auto manufacturer would produce such a small amount of cars. I know what they sell and what they produce are two different things....but it's not going to be off by a huge amount.

Yeah, I think those numbers are a little low, I've seen at least 10 other turbos in just a small part of CT alone...

the rarer (sp??) the better!! :D

We should document every single Turbo Legacy that we collectively know of. Color - Transmission - Mileage... VIN numbers? I saw that page a while back, and having thought about it now the numbers seem low. I think those may be the numbers for Canada.

Anyways, if we document every Turbo we see, know of, have wrecked, seen in a junk yard, yada yada... Might get a better idea of how many are out there. I know like 6 of them have gone across e-bay... If only I had 24 grand I could have bought them all!

In Colorado I saw them almost every day. Boulder was chock full of 'em. I was surprised when I got to Boulder back in '96 because I hadn't seen another turbo Legacy since I got the car ~6 months earlier.

I've always thought there were like 2000 made and sold in the US. wow. 688. it'd be cool to get sales figures right from Subaru. the guy that sold me mine has another one. a '93 white 5-speed sedan. there's some random chick in the town next to me that has one. a '91. poor thing is not at all well taken care of :( . but it's still running. the girl is cute too :D . other than that I NEVER see them around. I;ve only ever seen one more as far back as I can remember. I see way more SVXs than I do turbo legacies.

Just to get this straght. That figure is only for the Sedan right? Because I see way more Turbo wagon's that I see sedan's. I heard some where that they where rare but I didn't think that they where that rare. Also if they are that rare why aren't they worth more?

i doubt those stats are correct at all, especially in canada considering i know so many people with 92 legacy turbo 5MT.... i'm thinking those were the number of cars "sold that year" not imported.... i have my original sales reciept for my car and it is a 92 model purchased from the dealer in 93

i think its a technical error on this list

my $0.02

Thats pretty cool that you've been the owner of the car since it was new. How much was a new Legacy Turbo compared to other cars at that time? How did you find out about the car? Considering the fack that Subaru wasn't a really well known car manufacturer at that time?

A friend of mine got a 91 turbo in spring of 92 and paid about $21,000, including ttl.

whoops, a little miss communication there.... i have "the" original sales reciept, i bought the car off the original owner last year... i would've been 10 if i got that car when it was new... however i did try to get my parents to buy one, they ended up getting the 91 front wheel drive legacy when it came out, we've also owned an 87 XT turbo and now a 98 forester as well... basically a happy subaru family

To answer your question, the sales reciept says the car sold for $18995 or so brand new, before taxes and all that extra stuff, and that's canadian funds. I'm surprised at how cheap it was, considering when my parnets bought the 91 they payed almost $15000. I've always been a subaru fan since i was little, rally brainwashed me good!
