Lightened Flywheel?

Post by -K- »

I just pulled my tranny to change the clutch and the flywheel is shot. It's cracked to hell and some cracks run almost 1/4 in deep. So I need a new one and want to know if any one makes a lightened flywheel for my car. Or if a WRX flywheel works. I can find one for a WRX but would I need the clutch for it also?

The flywheele are lighted and balance , the reason I sell it because my tranny has problem so I have to sell it for some money to fix the tranny problem!

Is it true that you're not supposed to use both a lightened flywheel and lightened pulley at the same time?

I heard this somewhere, but can't remember the basis behind it.

I've had a lightweight flywheel (Exedy) and a UOR pulley on since February with no ill effects, but that's not really a long time.

I'd like to hear opinions on whether it's bad or not, but the whole subject of balancing in the engine has been covered innumberable times before.

Primitive Enterprises makes a really nice lightened flywheel. it's about 11lbs lighter then stock. http://www.get-primitive.com

It's not TOO light to make the car undrivable, but it's light enough to add more of a sporty feel to the car.

Lex got one from him, with an ACT clutch, for his 5MT conversion. When i drove it early this year, it felt a lot like my Exedy/STi setup. Any quality flywheel that's between 12-14lbs makes a world of difference in 1st gear and when rev-matching.

What is too light for a flywheel? I can get a fidanza flywheel for $299... but it only weighs 9.6 lbs! http://www.jscspeed.com/wrx/clutch.htm - I wanted to shoot for 12-14lbs because that is how light STi makes them. Will I regret getting this light of a flywheel? The car is going to be a daily-driver.

Found another site that says their Fidanza flywheel weighs 11 lbs. The man at JSC said he only saw one listed for 9.6 lbs... getting confused... http://www.ptuning.com/html/Item-Desc.c ... reza%20WRX

These prices are pretty good and I would get them... yet I don't want my car stalling everytime I try to maneuver in a parking lot.

I dig my Exedy, and it's between 12-14lbs. If it's 9...that might be bad.

Mine's very driveable, but i also have a STI clutch and pressure plate with STI engine and trans mounts, so there's no slack in the drivetrain to worry about. Streetlight launches are no problem, and i've only stalled it 3-4 times in the last year.
