Ben's engine pistons and exhaust

Post by ssspoon@aol.com »

Hi Ben,

OEM EJ22T pistons are factory turbo pistons. I think you should have no problems at 15 psi since overseas I think 12 psi is stock boost, and guys go to 15 and more quite regularly.

I also forgot to mention JE Pistons. Probably the most popular Japanese subcompact aftermarket vendor right now. Check them at http://www.jepistons.com/

The EJ20T and EJ22T block have the same external dimensions, but the exhaust manifold comes off the heads which *MIGHT* have slightly different port spacing or bolt patterns. It is another one of those "MAYBES" that could cause one more bit of grief for a swap, but at least not a showstopper. Somebody out there with first hand experience please help on this one.

Make sure that if you order JE Pistons you do not call their techs. They have no idea about clearences for their pistons. A better bet would be Ross (http://rosspistons.com). You can send them your original NA Piston and tell them what you want done. IE, I am going to be turbo. And they will have a few questions for you, but will build them. FYI, thes pistons (Ross) are also the same pistons used by the 8sec Talon from Extreme motorsports....

The exhaust manifold is different on the EJ22T and requires a change
of the front crossmember to clear the crossover pipe. I have a '94
turbo motor in my '95 Imprezza so I have been down that road and If I
can help just ask and I will do my best. I have the FSM on both the
EJ22T and the NA and can send copys.

I have an 92 Legacy turbo and just wants the engine swap and I think
the crossmember is the same as Japan Spec. Legacy also the GC8 WRX!!

Mark you are right , the stock boost setting is around 8.7psi but I
just has 0.33-0.41 kg/cm in stock boost setting shows up on the AVC-R
and I could rise it to 0.88 kg/cm at most or the car will be fuel cut
when I hit higher then that!!!
