where's the peak power?

Post by f13ndus »

I've got a 94 legacy with the EJ22 N/A that I've mentioned a few
times... what RPM is the peak power at? In other words, where should
I shift for the most power?

The 93 specs are:

130hp @ 5,400RPM
137 lb/ft @ 4,400

Iain-before I turbo`d my NA engine, I found that with a K&N panel filter, Borla headers, 480v RS coil pack, NGK wires & an Unorthodox pulley that between 5500 & 5800 rpm was a good shift point range. This is @ 5,000 ft. & with a predominantly dry climate. At sea level & with denser, cooler air, you probably could pull power to 6000. Reving past your power point is excess wear & tear + poorer mileage. My .03 cents---ROD (AZ.)

The '94 Legacy was rated at 130hp at 5400 rpm 137 lb ft torque and the
'96 Legacy was rated at 135 hp at 5400rpm 140 lb ft torque this was
probably due to a .2 point increase in compression ratio, the way
that they wanted to test them or the conditions that day but most
likely the computer came up with these numbers. The peak power depends
on several factors to numerous to mention here including any
modifications done, fuel, temperature, ect the only way to be sure
would be a good engine dyno.

Well a 92 NA 2.2 is 133hp so yes they have less power than a 94.

It's possible.....I think my 90 is rated at 135 hp....I'm not positive about that....it could be 130 hp

Depending on the exact model and transmission... about 160kw / 220bhp for the "standard", manual trans. About 5kw less for auto trans, and 15kw more for a "GT-B spec" manual trans.

OK I have gone through a stack of Dyno charts on the EJ engine with
various performance items. It appears that the peak is very
consistant at 5700rpm on almost all runs. This was done on a model
248C dynamometer at 86f 24.66 in. hg. 5280 ft CF=1.24 I think the
published figures are computer figures probably found during design.
