New Stuff

Post by Rod Grosvenor »

Hello to all-Some new info that`ll be updated once I have some work done. I`ve been running Toluene (11/4 gls. per 14 gas) as an octane booster for a little while now. It works GREAT! It`s boosted our West-Coast 91 octane swill to about 93 octane; if I doubled the amount added to 12.5 gls., the result would be approx. 95+ octane. It`s pricey, though; in 5 gl. containers it runs about $7.00 a gl. Still, it beats the hell out of detonation. A new revelation has come to me after a trip to Pro-Dyno in Tempe: denatured alcohol in a timed, boost-related spray directly into the connection to the throttle body. Based on the adjusted, sprayed amount along with the length of time (at certain boost for a certain number of gears and time), it can elevate HP, eliminate detonation & is rated at up to 109 octane!!! Being that it`s not poured into the gas but injected directly, the ratio between the alcohol & fuel gives you the elevated octane. Also, if there are any corrosion questions in the fuel system (none yet & don`t anticipate any), they`ll be eliminated with this direct approach. I`m going down next week to have measurements for the bottle & pump brackets to be made. Once those parts are completed, the dyno tune will be done with this addition. The dyno tech has one on his Grand National Buick & one on his Camaro. There was a `95 TransAm with a Vorteched, intercooled small block running this alcohol set-up registering 644 RWHP & 500 ft. lbs. of torque @ 3,000 RPM (I saw the dyno sheets.) The owner was there & was thrilled with the set-up as it helps with the 32 degree timing @ 15 lbs. boost. I think we have a winnah!!!! I`ll keep you all posted---Wanna-be-fast-ROD

Hi Rod, Interestig stuff isn't it? It became famous years ago whenthe
NACAR guys were busted using it. I just uploaded a file called Rocket
Fuel that you might find interesting. Would you believe a 84% mixture
in a F1 engine?

Al-I think you sent me the info on the "fuel". I found it, printed it up & gave it to a few friends. Anyway, it works & I thank you. I`ll keep everyone posted on the viability of the alcohol injection & the cost/benefit ratio. See `ya---ROD (STILL TRYIN` TO GO FASTER!)
