somethings burning...

Post by Nissan-Subaru »

Ok what can cause a burning rubber smell in a 91 turbo
sedan 131,000 miles (it smells like a household vacumm
with a bad belt) I’ve already replaced all the main
belts (except timing) I smell it in the vents.. not
really outside. It started about 2 days ago. (after i
got an oil change???)

Please be specific

Thanks!
John

Could be oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold. Appears to be a fairly
common problem - I know at least I have it! Really stinks! Most of the
time it will be just an occaisional drop which comes from the rocker cover
seal or bolt seals. I've been meaning to do mine for the past couple of
months!

Change your timing belt and you might find your front main seal is gone. The
oil grips in front of the engine gets blown back onto the sump and then goes
to the exhaust and stinks like sh!t. With a turbo car it would be worse I
would imagine with the exhaust in front of the sump. If this does not work
go for the turbo.
