ok i got rid of that connector under the rear seat.. and the gauge STILL likes to spend most of its time on the "E" part, then springs back to life later... happens all the time.. any ideas people?

gas gauge annoyance
OK the Subaru Factory service manual in it's clear and concise way
says if the guage is bad replace and if the sending unit is bad
replace! Wow. But here is something I know will at least will tell you
what is broken. If you can find the wire going to the gauge disconnect
the wire and connect the gauge terminal to ground with a 30 ohm
resistor the gauge should read 1/2. This very informative manual goes
to to say that if you have "defective packing air tightness on the
fuel saucer you should correct it" (sorry couldn't resist including
this item)
