MT dies when clutch let out in neutral
Hubby just got done with the engine overhaul on our 93 MT AWD NON-turbo wagon. New clutch F1 stage 1 kit. All fluids double checked. It ran fine in idle, he revved up to 2000rpm and heard a clunk. Let up on the clutch and the engine died. Can starts up with clutch in. So he re-pulled the engine, rep...

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
It was a Napa part.
So do you think it could just be the part? That would make my day.
Otherwise, it is all the seals along the torque converter. Do they go out after 300k miles? And put too much pressure on the one seal that we can change without pulling the tranny.

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
HELP! The thing is leaking AGAIN! 422k miles now and it really leaks at start up. Is there any other problem that would cause the seal to leak after 21k miles.
He is still busy putting together the partial rebuild engine on the 93 wagon. It sucks to be in So Cal rural without a car.

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
You can get to the bolts. It was at that point, I stopped complaining about hubby having so many different wrenches. He assembled the converter on the tranny then put in the engine. Went fine after he fixed the cherry picker to hold! Old one leaked, not a nice sight seeing the engine starting to cra...

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
Hubby reinstalled the engine and put in new hoses and connector at the PCV valve. The hose crumbed in his hand.
Test drive fine.....BUT.....it doesn't hold on a hill now. When he comes to a stop, the car rolls back before accelerating. What was done wrong?

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
Yes I expect a wee bit of swearing on this task. Hubby will just crank up the radio to drown it out. He did find a you tube video on pulling the engine. I haven't checked it out. I hope they did it correctly! Such good new the seal is available from parts store. We just need to pull it not on a Sund...

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
Help: I need the Part number for the input shaft seal or torque converter seal. You see I don't know what subaru calls it and don't know if it is on the tranny part pages or what (Non-turbo 91 2wd AT) as I confess I keep mixing up the end of the tranny with the engine side. Haven't seen a blow up of...

Re: A/C compressor leaking
Napa had an o-ring that fit, so we'll see. It seems like it is a relief valve, that I assume is not replaceable.
The 200# compressor was the same on top but the brackets below are farther apart. Hoping the o-ring did the job.

Re: A/C compressor leaking
The DKKC has a bolt in the back that is leaking! I see on no part sheet if the bolt is removable and has a seal. The calsonic 200 # compressor is the same as DKKC except the wire is on the side instead of on top. Oh the things we'll check out taking the DKKC out and playing with the bolt first. Just...

Re: A/C compressor leaking
receiver/dryer is what the parts manual calls liquid tank ay. No wonder why new dealers never got the part right, no one calls things the same! I got better description - a/c charged and stopped working - because of the leak at the compressor. And it is a DKKC on wagon So you can't change a DKKC wit...

Re: A/C compressor leaking
VIN: 4S3BJ6334P6955342 Now you know why I sit confused (car with hubby). I read the part number and read the Calsonic name on it, yet the parts catalog shows it on the dkkc page. So I'll double check it tonight The 93 sedan was part number 73011AA090 and looked different to the 73011AA110. The mecha...

A/C compressor leaking
We had a mechanic convert to R134 and charge the compressor. It works, but he detects leaking out the back. We bought the wagon and the AC didn't work. This means we need a new compressor right? Why is the 1993 compressor so DANG expensive ($500) vs 1994 ($185) or 1992 ($265) My 1993 half dead sedan...

Any preferred brand/size of cherry picker? We noticed the 1 ton Harbor Freight review said the arm wasn't long enough to reach into anything other than a Miata. We ownt an engine stand.

Re: Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairab
Help me understand. Before the seal really blew, meaning a leak at all times, we would start up the car, pull into our steep 5 foot entrance to the garage, and in the garage it would leak. So the car went in an incline, yet would leak in front. Gravity not at work, but pressure? Can a tranny be pull...

Leak between engine and automatic transmission, repairable?
This is our 401k mile 91 sedan. Got a new tranny at 104k and everything replaced by Amco, bearings, solinoids, etc. They kept replacing parts every two weeks until they did the bearings week 5 & 6. Ran great until last weekend. When driving on an incline on the freeway, it shuddered because it c...

Re: Sounds like missing a cylinder above 60 MPH?
Just an update. We had the shudder again, but this time when I was a passenger and could listen. The car wasn't shifting down from 4th to 3rd. Thus the shudder as the engine was lagging. ATF very low and very bad leak now. Time to search on that problem.

Re: Sounds like missing a cylinder above 60 MPH?
What a great thread. We had a shudder when accelerating up a hill. Let off the gas, and it recovered. Keep the gas on and oh my the shudder got worse. It was never consistent except hill and on the freeway. I told hubby about this post and sure enough the plugs hadn't been changed for 50k miles. No ...

Re: odometer mileage tampering
Thank you, so I know to check the cover and dash. Another thing that makes me think it could be low mileage is the seat belt lap belt is fine. I should pick that one up while there. But storm coming in so who knows if we ever get it.

Re: Car randomly wont start
I do wonder if it is the ignition switch in that after 400k the key is worn and I did happen to turn over the key and it started last night. Hubby I think has the more worn key and that might explain why he has more problems, but for him only when it is hot and run awhile. Never a clear cut easy ans...

Re: Car randomly wont start
Sometimes when i go to start my car, i turn the key and nothing happens. The starter doesn't even crank. I can wait a litte bit or open the trunk, or do something that gets a little current flowing through the electrical system, and the car will start fine like nothing ever happend. This happens pr...

Re: odometer mileage tampering
So does this mean the 100,000 digit can't be messed with independently? At the junk yard one car has blank in this digit and all numbers perfectly alligned. Another car, one we might throw $250 for the motor, says 084936. The 4 is slightly higher as I believe it should be as it is ready to roll to 5...

Re: Subaruparts.com
As of 2010 new person at the desk that is responsive. subarugenuineparts.com was a $1 less on the steering rack seal kit, but $1 isn't worth it when they don't list whether it is in stock. So we'll order from subaruparts.com once again, after we go to the pick a part and know that is all we need. I ...

Retainer Clip scrapes rotor
Hubby changed the rotors and disc pads. Heard scraping metal as wheel went around. Thought we had this noise before and let it go a week to see if any changes. No change. We got tires today and the tire place said the retainer clip was scraping the pad. background: This was the wheel that got hit an...
