I should add that if you want to go with a PPG gearset, you need a WRX transmission case.
If you watch NASIOC, an '04 or '05 6mt can be had for around $2500. I also see used PPG boxes go for reasonable money, compared to putting one together from scratch.

You'll want to stick with copper gaskets. You can get new ones from any local auto parts store. While its nice to have ones that fit perfect it's not totally necessary. The pressure from the banjo bolt is enough to make a less than perfect fitting banjo bolt washer/gasket seal nicely.

An exhaust leak will show itself at all levels of operation and be most noticable at acceleration of any kind.
